A deal has been struck with former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama and the streaming service Netflix, according to a report by The New York Times. The Obamas will produce a range of TV shows and films for Netflix under the new deal.
The former president will have an international television platform through the streaming service that will reach millions in the U.S. and around the world. To date, the couple has developed Higher Ground Productions – a company dedicated to producing content for Netflix.
Mr. Obama has said he will not use the platform to engage with President Trump or to fight conservatives in other media outlets. The Obamas will instead produce scripted series, unscripted series, documentaries, and features that are committed to focusing on the issues that the former president endured during his eight-year presidency. This is despite the call from Obama supporters to actively fight against President Trump and the changes he has made the Obama policies.
There were no financial details reported about the Netflix and Obama deal with the streaming service. Other deals with Netflix and high-profile celebrities have garnered tens of millions of dollars in deals that extended over several years.
