The BET awards are meant to be a moment of Black empowerment. It helps show the struggle the black community goes through to make it in the entertainment industry. During this year’s Jesse Williams gave a moving speech on the topic; Black Lives Matter, getting a standing innovation at the end. Many guests had visible tears running down their cheeks with many nodding in approval. But Stacey Dash had other views.
Stacey has been known for her controversial statement. She wants labeled women as the reason why they do not get paid as much as men when many female actresses came forth and demanded fairness. She also said Obama didn’t care about terrorism, to put her words lightly. This time, she claimed on her blog that BET should be abolished altogether for stereotyping the black community.
“You’ve just seen the perfect example of a HOLLYWOOD plantation slave! Sorry, Mr. Williams.” She wrote. “But the fact that you were standing on that stage at THOSE awards tells people you really don’t know what you’re talking about. Just spewing hate and anger.”
She also said that Jesse was only doing it for the money and following people blindly, like many in the Black community. She reminders everyone that BET is owned by the White and said its just another way of slavery.
BET responded in emphatic fashion. Stacey seems to have forgotten that she was a star actor, and in fact, BET drew her path when she started in You were in the game back in 2009. BET told her if the network was so irrelevant, then she should send back the checks that she got from them when she was still an upcoming actress.
