Louisiana Republican Vance McAllister, who is married, is in deep trouble after a security video showed him in a hot embrace with one of his married aides, Melissa Anne Hixon Peacock, Hollywood Life reports. Ironically, McAllister won his legislative seat campaigning on Christian family values.
The video was taken on Dec. 23 and submitted to the Ouachita Citizen, a small newspaper based in Monroe, La., by an anonymous source.
According to Politico, federal payroll records show Peacock works as a part-time congressional aide who was hired by McAllister the day after he won his seat last year.
McAllister won a special election on Nov. 16 to replace Rep. Rodney Alexander (R-La.) by touting his conservative ideology, including his Christian faith and 16-year marriage. The folks at the “Duck Dynasty” reality show publicly backed McAllister.
According to the Citizen, which came out for McAllister’s opponent in an editorial last fall, Peacock and her husband Heath Peacock donated a combined $10,400 to the GOP Rep.’s campaign.
The paper also describes the ways in which McAllister trumpeted his deep Christian faith during his campaign. For example, on his campaign website, McAllister listed “faith and family” as his top issues. The McAllisters have five children.
In a statement issued Monday (April 7) afternoon, McAllister did a mea culpa.
“There’s no doubt I’ve fallen short and I’m asking forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve,” the Louisiana congressman said.
“Trust is something I know has to be earned whether you’re a husband, father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I’ve disappointed. … I would just simply like to say that I’m very sorry for what I’ve done,” he continued.
